Greek God Reports & Museum Update!

We have decided to have the reports and museum on the last days of school.

The due date for the reports are on June 21st. I have given them the option of typing them.

Update!

The museum of Greek Gods will be on June 23rd and it will be in the library from 11 to 12:15.

Hope you can come.

Time to be announced.

3rd Grade Math

We are revisiting multiplication facts. I found many of my students didn’t remember their facts. They will really need to know them for fourth grade. I am working on getting them fluent.

Please work with them on their facts!!!!

They will forget them over the summer!!!

After 27 years!!!!

Dear Families,

It has been a pleasure teaching your children. I’ve learned a lot and hope they have too. I will be retiring at the end of this year. I’ve had a wonderful experience and now I want to use the remaining energy I have to travel and enjoy myself.

I told my students today and it will probably spread throughout the school.

Thank you!

Informational Papers/Research Projects

They have each been assigned a Greek God or Goddess of their choosing. They should all be satisfied with their choice. We have started researching in the library. They will be taking notes and then they will be making their own report which includes many text features.

Ask them about text features! We went over all of them today.

We will also have a museum at the end to celebrate. They will all be able to dress up or just have props when they share their info with other classrooms and with their families.

Stay tuned.

Room 218 Charter

As third graders in Room 218 at Daniel Bagley, we want to feel content, comforted, included, safe and inspired.

In order to feel content, we need to be positive, know what to do and what’s expected of us. We need a quiet work environment. We want to be able to concentrate on our work as well as work cooperatively as a team. We want to be challenged.

In order to feel comforted, we want to be warm and receive praise from our classmates and our teacher.

In order to feel included, we will help each other, be nice to each other and participate in class and encourage each other.

In order to feel safe, we will listen to what we’re supposed to do. We will practice and know how to respond to drills. We will keep our hands and feet to ourselves.

In order to feel inspired, we will be surrounded by great books, posters and learn about famous people. We will do interesting work.

In order to settle conflicts, we will use kind words, talk it over after we have had a chance to calm down. We will use “I” statements. We will ask someone for help if we need it. We will talk privately and we will be generous with each other.

Genre Book Reports

I have failed to mention the types of book reports that my students need to do.

They will be doing 10 book reports. One for each month of school. There are ten genres.

They are:

Graphic Novels

Adventure

Fantasy

Historical Fiction

Science Fiction

Mystery

Realistic Fiction

Scary

Humor

Sports

They can only do one book report in each genre category. We will keep track at school and maybe you can keep track at home.

The next book report is due on December 5th.

Thanks for your patience.

Cursive Practice

We have been practicing cursive since the beginning of the year. I wanted to make sure they would leave 3rd grade knowing how to write in cursive.

I wanted to let you know about a free app that you can get for your touch screen electronics. It’s simply called “Cursive Writing.” The app is on a white lined paper with the word Cursive printed in yellow surrounded by green and the “Writing is in black and cursive.

Your children will recognize it because they have practiced on it in class on my iPad.

They will love practicing at home.
